Great Britain & Ireland Holds Off Late United States Charge to Win 2024 Curtis Cup
The biennial Curtis Cup is contested between teams of the best female amateur golfers from the United States and Great Britain & Ireland.
Great Britain & Ireland won the 2024 Curtis Cup at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
The United States rallied from a 6-2 deficit on Sunday, the final day of competition, to force a 10-10 tie after the singles matches. The tie gave the cup to Great Britain & Ireland for the second straight time because of their 8½-7½ advantage in four-ball and foursomes.
For the United States, it was a bitter way to lose the cup for the third consecutive time. On the three occasions, the matches were tied after 36 holes.
GB&I's Louise Duncan holed a 4-foot putt on the 16th green in the final match against Rachel Kuehn to give her team the half-point it needed.
A foursomes victory by Heather MacRae and Caley McGinty in the second match clinched the tie for the U.S. The Americans also won the final three singles matches on the course.
Macrae delivered the hottest start for the visitors, holing a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 2, in the first Saturday four-ball match. McGinty sank a curving 6-footer for par on the 18th green to win the match.
It was Great Britain & Ireland's third Curtis Cup title in the last four events and eighth overall. The United States has won 33 times in the 44 contests.
